Greetings,

Free stuff! Everybody wants it. Getting free gear and being able to say “I'm endorsed by so and so” is a very interesting topic, and one that is often approached from the wrong angle. This month Loren Weisman shares an article from his blog on endorsements. He explores what to and what not to do when seeking them out. Read the complete article at:

BANDS WANTED FOR SXSW INTERVIEW: Are you or your band playing at SXSW this year? Would you like to do a "quick" email interview with OnlineRock? If so, drop us a line and we'll ask you a few questions, talk about your show time(s) and include a video or an MP3. We'll be posting these "Quick Interviews" regularly in our blog as a preview to SXSW starting about a month before the event. We feel it's a way to get a glimpse of some of the bands and artist who will make their way to Austin this year. For more information, please visit:

FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD: This month we are featuring Sharon Van Etten. The Brooklyn-based songstress sings folk music for lovers—lovers of heartache, of life, of raw human emotion—laying graceful vocals like lace over crooning, acoustic guitar that feels straight out of the bedroom. With guitar in hand, she is the first featured artist in the Shaking Through music series from WXPN and Weathervane Music. We have a free download of her song "Love More" at:

MONTHLY GIVEAWAYS: This month we have two giveaways -

- Win Free Tickets to Taken by Trees/El Perro del Mar Co-Headlining Show:

Taken by Trees is the latest project for artist Victoria Bergsman from Stockholm, Sweden. Bergsman was singer-songwriter for The Concretes for eleven years before deciding to leave the band in July 2006. Victoria appeared in the infectious single ‘Young Folks’ by Peter Bjorn and John and released a 7” tour single Sweet Child O’ Mine, a Guns N’ Roses cover.

El Perro del Mar’s third album is called Love Is Not Pop. After been praised globally for her two first albums, El Perro del Mar now takes a very interesting step further with her music. Including a cover of Lou Reed’s Heavenly Arms.

We have a pair of tickets for the March 2nd show at the Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco.

FEATURED ARTIST PROFILE: Lights, our featured artist in February, come through the visual spectrum. They see the aesthetic value of luxury items, the power of the object. For Lights, the Funkadelic diaper is an essential part of the P-Funk experience. There are no extraneous details. The look is as much of the encounter as the music. Whatever they were in a previous life, Lights aren’t rocks or seaglass, beautiful but incapable of perception. They’ve got eyes and ears, they’re human. No wait — they’re more than that! They’re like a pool that everyone comes diving in and climbing out of. You can find out more at:

CD SPOTLIGHT: However intentional a decision it was, the Brian Jonestown Massacre has become synonymous with conflict and it is no surprise that the band’s eleventh studio album is stuffed with druggy haze and a healthy dose of aggression. "Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?" is built upon the sorts of interior conflicts that made bandleader Anton Newcombe such a magnetic trainwreck tour-de-force in Ondi Timoner’s infamous rock doc, “Dig.” Read the full review of their new release at:

WEB HOSTING: OnlineRock offers an inexpensive solution for hosting your music or band web site. These are perfect additions to your MySpace or Facebook pages as they provide you with the flexibility to build your web site any way that you want with no advertising or restrictions. Our packages include your own domain name, multiple email accounts, FTP access, advanced reporting and CGI access along with a long list of options. We can even move your old OnlineRock site into place. For more information on our hosting options, please visit:

Stay tuned as next month we'll be featuring artists and information about SXSW 2010.

Rock On!
