Greetings,

Loren Weisman is an accomplished music producer and consultant based in Seattle, Washington. Having worked on hundreds of albums, studio productions, and tours as both a drummer and producer, he gained a spectrum of insight on the music industry as a whole. Loren is also the author of "The Artist’s Guide to Success in the Music Business". OnlineRock has reprinted a number of Loren's articles throughout the years. When he recently published his book, we thought we'd we ask him a few questions about it. We're also giving away a free copy of the book. To read the interview, please visit:

ELECTRIC GUITAR CLINIC - In this article we will take a look at some of the differences between Humbucking pickups and Single Coil pickups, both technically and tonally. Many think, “Isn’t a Humbucker just two Single Coils side by side?” The answer is both yes and no as they both yield quite different tonal and technical characteristics. There have been many attempts to harness both sounds in one guitar or pickup, but the general consensus is that a guitar is either a Humbucking guitar or a Single Coil. Like they say, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Read Matt Griffith's article at:

MONTHLY GIVEAWAYS:

Win a Gig-FX VOD Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal - A unique and amazingly versatile pedal that can produce any level of overdrive from clean boost to shred metal. All analog, low noise with tonal qualities to die for. The three band EQ has a wide cut and boost range to provide almost any desired tone. One central concept to the VOD is to preserve the full EQ and tone of the original signal, which is not easy with a distortion pedal. By adjusting the EQ, you will find you can retain your fundamental guitar tone, whether it is low end, mid tones, or high end harmonics. Of course, if you want to augment your tone, you can cut and boost highs, lows or mids to create your own sound.

Win A Free Copy Of "The Artist’s Guide to Success in the Music Business" - A detailed analysis of the subjects that all musicians should understand and apply in order to pursue a successful and sustainable career in music. Full of ideas and practical advice, this book provides comprehensive detail on how to optimize success and achieve sustainability and self-empowerment in today’s music business. From production and performance to marketing and career-building, this book instructs artists on how to take the hard-earned lessons of a fellow musician and put them to work in their own careers. We're giving away a free copy of his new book.

CD SPOTLIGHT: Thirteen songs, each one named after a different hipster chick (“Abra,” “Darla,” etc…), could have been a cheesy/dangerous proposition. But on "Her", the spunky Philly garage rock quartet the Chimeras energetically instill each song with a separate, vibrant personality and completely avoid the kitsch-novelty factor that the album’s central premise so dangerously courts. EXCLUSIVE MP3 DOWNLOAD: San Diego based electro-rockers White Apple Tree first turned heads when their 2008 release Snowflakes was featured on the hit TV show Gossip Girl. The success of the pick up and the audience’s reaction to the song created strong demand for this full-length album release. With Velvet Mustache, brothers Ryan and Taylor Lawhon along with Stefan Mac use quirky synths, lush ambient guitars and the occasional four-on-the-floor kick to create a unique and refreshing take on modern electronic music. Lead single, Youth, has already caught onto the ears of many with its edgy electro-rock beats and insightful lyrics. Download "Mr. Sanity" at:

FEATURED ARTIST PROFILE: "Songs should be remembered." This is the mantra of San Gabriel Valley-based (California, US) indie band Evertheory. Vocalist Jae, guitarist Prudencio, percussionist Barbosa, keyboardist Cheung and bassist Peterson make it a point to push the creative direction of the band forward with each new song. Each member brings to the table a vast pool of inspiration and influences from rock, folk, alternative classical music, video game music, metal, world music and jazz, and all of this comes together to become a fusion of styles that is melodramatic post-alternative. You can download "The Moon" from their latest release at:
